Washington, D.C., — The U.S. Mint today announced the 2002 Olympic Winter Games Commemorative Coins will be available in its annual catalog — the U.S. Mint Collection – available by mail, phone, fax, and online beginning October 12. The coins, which celebrate and support the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games that will take place in February, will be available at pre–issue discount prices through February 25, ranging from $30 for the uncirculated silver dollar, and $195 for the proof gold five dollar coin, to $440 for the four–coin proof and uncirculated set.

“I am pleased to present the 2001 catalog, and proud to be a part of the tradition of excellence the Mint has established since its inception in 1792,” said Mint Director Henrietta Holsman Fore. “We value our Mint customers, and hope that you find the same pleasure in owning and giving United States Mint products that we find in producing them for you. Your satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us, as is our commitment to quality and value.”

Concluding a series started in 1996, the Mint presents the 2001 Holiday Ornament, the last of six circulating coin ornaments featuring classic circulating coin designs. The gold–plated, brass ornament features a 2001–dated Lincoln cent framed by a two–dimensional image of the Lincoln Memorial. The 2001 Holiday Ornament is available separately for $18.95, or as part of the limited edition set of six for $100.

Popular 50 State Quarter gift items include limited quantities of Coin and Die Sets, featuring New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Vermont or Kentucky quarters, with a choice of either P or D Mint marks, and a completely defaced die originally used for production runs of the state quarters ($34.95).

Collectors who have yet to order their annual coin sets may purchase the 2001 10–Coin U.S. Mint Proof Set® ($19.95), the United States Mint Silver Proof Set® ($31.95), the United States Mint 50 State Quarters Proof Set® ($13.95), and the 2001 United States Mint Uncirculated Mint Coin Set® ($14.95). Collectors also have another chance to purchase the Capitol Visitor Center Commemorative Coins, to support the construction, maintenance and preservation of the new Capitol Visitor Center. The first traditional three–coin modern commemorative coin series released since 1995, the clad, silver and gold coins may be ordered in various packaging options, ranging in price from $9.75 for the encapsulated clad half–dollar to $250 for the Proof Three Coin Set.
