Last Gold and Silver Proof Eagles of the Millennium Orders of $150 or More Receive Specially Commissioned Art Nouveau–Style Poster Total Program Mintage Reduced; Only 8,000 One Ounce Proof Gold Eagles Available

Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Mint today announced it will begin sending out order forms for 1999 Proof American Eagle Gold and Silver Coins on April 30.

“As the last Proof Eagles to be issued in the 1900s, we anticipate very high demand for these coins,” said Mint Director Philip N. Diehl. “We’ve reduced the mintage of One Ounce Proof Gold Eagles to only 8,000, and the total mintage for the program is reduced from 1998 levels as well.”

“To celebrate the coins’ historical significance and to thank our customers for their loyalty, we’re offering a specially commissioned Art Nouveau–style poster of the Augustus Saint–Gaudens “Liberty” design free to those who place orders for $150 or more by June 15.”

Renowned illustrator Oren Sherman has created a stunning Art Nouveau interpretation of the most cherished and enduring gold coin design on U.S. coinage, which originally graced the 1907 twenty dollar gold piece. A nationally acclaimed artist and illustrator working in Boston’s Fenway Studios, Sherman’s award–winning poster designs have depicted the Tall Ships, the Kentucky Derby, the Brooklyn Bridge Centennial, the Ringling Brothers Barnum &Bailey Circus and numerous magazine covers, theatre productions and movies.

Prices remain at 1998 levels: the one–ounce Proof gold American Eagle sells for $570; the half–ounce for $285; the quarter–ounce for $150; the tenth–ounce for $70 and the Four Coin Set for $999. The proof silver American Eagle one ounce coin remains $24.

Sales of proof gold Eagles will end December 31,1999, and Proof Silver Eagles will be sold while supplies last. The Mint reserves the right to limit quantities and to stop accepting orders. Coins may be delivered in multiple shipments at different times.
