Shows a popular view of Mt. Chocorua, the easternmost peak of the Sandwich Range. The mountain and a nearby lake shore are framed by birch trees.
Obverse
Features the portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan, used on the quarter-dollar coin since 1932.

The Story

The White Mountain National Forest quarter is the 16th design in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. White Mountain National Forest is located mostly in New Hampshire, the rest in Maine. The area was first established as a national forest on May 16, 1918.

One of the nation’s most popular national forests to visit, this site boasts unique landscapes, many sources of recreation, and rich natural resources. Its features include Mt. Washington, the highest peak north of the Smokey Mountains and east of the Mississippi River.
