Weir Farm National Historic Site Quarter
Coin Description
The Story
The Weir Farm National Historic Site in Connecticut honors the life and work of American painter J. Alden Weir. Weir is famous for a type of art known as impressionism. Weir and other artists found inspiration from the landscape around the farm.
The site is 68 acres and includes 15 historic buildings, including houses, barns, and art studios. The rest of the site features gardens, stone walls, trees, orchards, fields, a pond, and many painting sites.
The farm offers a variety of art programs. This includes an artist-in-resident program, free art supplies, night painting, and art lessons.
The quarter’s design is based off historic images of the studio and the paintings that Weir and other artists made of the property.
