The Story

The Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve is in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The park is on the island of St. Croix, the largest of the four islands that make up the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Created in 1992, Salt River Bay is both a historical park and an ecological preserve. The park provides an opportunity to explore 2,000 years of human history in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The park also protects diverse ecosystems, which support threatened and endangered species. This includes some of the largest remaining mangrove forests in the Virgin Islands, as well as coral reefs and a submarine canyon.
