The Story

Colorado is the home of Great Sand Dunes National Park. The quarter that honors the park is 24th in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program.

This park has the tallest dunes in North America. The park’s other landscape features include grasslands, wetlands, forests, lakes, and tundra. This variety provides visitors with a wide range of activities like hiking, sand sledding, splashing in the creek, and watching wildlife.

Great Sand Dunes National Park was first established as a national monument on March 17, 1932.
